You wait around all day for a firmware update to arrive, then two come along at once. PlayStation 5 has just received a brand new update, and at nearly the exact same time, Sony has put out a new system software version for PS4 as well. Taking the console's firmware to version 9.51, what does this one do?
As you might've guessed, it's a pretty tame one, featuring the gaming community's favourite patch note: "This system software update improves system performance."
The patch is only 491.8MB in size, so it won't be long before your PS4 console is bang up to date. This update isn't mandatory, but you may as well get it sorted sooner rather than later. Happy Firmware Day, everyone!

I think 9.51 is mandatory as i was kicked from psn until i updated. I had paused RE3 to do a web search, went back to the game, and then paused again to return to my web search. and found i was not connected to psn and had to update to reconnect.
Can't update from 9.00.
It will spoil the jailbreak
I scream that a sense of stability is so important in the zoo.
I have to keep my eyes with my PS4 storage whenever it got updated from internet.
Interesting how PS4 gets all these "performance" updates near end of life. If patch notes were honest it would just say, "Slowing down your system."
Patch notes. Making more effort to try and get you to upgrade to a ps5. Your system will get slower over time and crash more.
Would love for a detail patch notes
@Mongooose apple did that with their iPhones & got sued for it
Is anyone else getting an issue whereby everytime the console is turned on, you are asked to update front-facing profile details (notification settings)? I thought the new patch might have fixed it.
@NeoTokyo404 Yes, it was bloody annoying and I was getting that before the update?! Every boot up it sat there asking about something I hadn't changed?!
To fix it you have to go into your settings and re-enable some of the notifications (I think I switched them all back on and then deactivated the ones I really didn't want) and that sorted it!
I suspect Sony were buggering about with something at their end that needed (re)confirmation on the PS4.
@lolwhatno not really sure I just remember reading about it I've always preferred android anyway but it's interesting to see that it didn't really effect them apart from the fine they were forced to pay consumers continue to buy their iPhones
@lolwhatno I wasn't saying they wouldn't do it , I wouldn't put it past any big corporations to do scummy things like that
Eh, if they wanted me to buy ps5 they would sell one to me - still no stock around these parts
